Gunther rejects Rhodes contract demand on SmackDown
Gunther refused to sign the contract for a title match against Cody Rhodes during Friday Night SmackDown. Rhodes set up the ring table and chairs himself after Paul Heyman arranged the proposed clash for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash in Italy.
Gunther said Rhodes had interfered with his planning by drawing attention to the signing process. Rhodes answered that Gunther had already received help from Heyman and urged him to complete the paperwork in the ring.
Royce Keys entered the ring and offered to sign the contract if Gunther would not. General manager Nick Aldis ruled that Gunther had forfeited his guaranteed title opportunity and scheduled a match between Gunther and Keys for the same night.
Gunther defeated Keys after Solo Sikoa interfered from ringside. Rhodes attacked Gunther from behind as Gunther celebrated the victory, leaving the championship situation unresolved ahead of Clash in Italy.
