Cousins credits Brady FaceTime for Raiders choice
Kirk Cousins credited a FaceTime call with Tom Brady for providing a decisive push toward signing with the Las Vegas Raiders. The new Raiders quarterback texted Brady during free agency, and Brady called back while Cousins attended youth baseball practice. Cousins described the conversation as life-giving, helping align his vision with the organization's direction.
Cousins shared the details during an appearance on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football." Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion and Raiders minority owner, outlined his perspective on the team's future and assessed Cousins' fit. Cousins called his wife after the call to highlight its impact, noting Brady's experience as someone who has navigated similar career stages.
Cousins last played for the Atlanta Falcons, appearing in 10 games with eight starts. He completed 61.7% of his passes for 1,721 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. The Falcons went 5-3 in his starts, winning the final four.
Cousins knows new Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak from their time together in Minnesota, where Kubiak served as quarterbacks coach for two seasons and offensive coordinator for one. The Raiders hold the No. 1 pick and expect to select Heisman-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza, though Brady and general manager John Spytek favor developing young quarterbacks behind a veteran. Brady attended the first day of organized team activities and plans to remain available as a resource.
