Government Deal Secures Leases for D.C.'s Three Public Golf Courses

The National Links Trust announced late Friday that the Trump administration secured an agreement to keep Washington, D.C.'s three public golf courses open, accessible and affordable. The trust will hold a long-term lease for two courses and operate the third, East Potomac Golf Links, until federal officials undertake a historic restoration.

The Trump administration had sought control of the courses after the trust failed to assure the National Park Service of its funding and capital investment plans. The trust continued operations amid the dispute, which resolved with the new leases. The National Park Service described the East Potomac project as creating a top-tier 18-hole championship course capable of hosting major tournaments.

Preservation advocates challenged government plans after debris from White House renovations tested positive for lead at East Potomac. President Trump has expressed interest in elevating the course to U.S. Open caliber.

The Washington Commanders foundation will partner with the trust at nearby Langston Golf Course, close to the team's planned RFK Stadium site set for 2030.
